LONG DAY: Bargello, Class, Strozzi Palace.

Today we were able to sleep in a little bit longer because we were meeting in the lobby  of the Instituto to go to the Bargello Museum. I grabbed my breakfast really quickly and was ready to start the day. At the Bargello Museum, we saw even more famous statues; however, it wasn’t the Donatello or Michelangelo works that caught my attention but that of Giambologna. Giambologna’s Birds were some of my favorite sculptures we’ve seen on this trip. I love different types of birds and oftentimes find myself watching their movements. Giambologna was able to capture the essence of the birds’ movements in these bronze statues. I found myself completely entranced in each of the different bird statues, specifically the Eagle, Owls, and Peacock. Like I’ve mentioned in other posts, it’s nice to be able to see other pieces of work that don’t necessarily have a religious connotation.

We finished at the Bargello and then headed back across the bridge to our side of town. I already had my things for class with me so I decided to do a little shopping in the Santo Spirito Piazza. I bought a black skirt with lace around the bottom that came to my knee. After shopping, I met up with Cassandra and Kelsey and we ate at Gusta Pizza. My pizza (I posted a picture earlier) was in the shape of a heart! We then went to get more gelato from our favorite place that sells the Pink Grapefruit gelato. I don’t think you can understand HOW delicious and refreshing that flavor is! After gelato, we headed to class til 5 and then went to the Strozzi Palace where we were able to look at the panels made by Brunelleschi and Ghiberti for the Baptistry door competition.

Dinner tonight we went back to Trattoria Ginone. I was able to eat the delicious soup again along with large macaroni in a spicy salami sauce! I finished off dinner with a slice of Nona (Grandmother’s Cake). After dinner I came back and put a serious dent in my project on Clothing in 15th Century Florence and then finished homework for tomorrow. We are going to see Michelangelo’s David tomorrow at the Academia!
 Ciao!
