This morning started off a little rushed. Kelsey and I didn’t wake up until 3 minutes before breakfast starts! I can’t wait to be able to sleep in until whenever I want on Sunday. We ate a really quick breakfast and headed to class. Today was a little different in that we had an outing earlier than usual. This meant that we would have an afternoon of class as well. Today we headed to the Basilica di San Lorenzo, the Medici Tombs, and The Laurentian Library. I am becoming fascinated with the wealth and power that the Medici family had over Florentines of the 15th century. Their name seems to be absolutely everywhere. I can’t even begin to describe the extravagance of their burial sights. After we finished with our outings, Kimberly, Kelsey, Cassandra, Caitlin, and I grabbed a quick bite to eat at this food truck and walked around the San Lorenzo market. I bought my brother a little something and bought myself a Universita di Firenze hoodie. I can’t wait to do more shopping with the girls on Sunday!
Tonight Kelsey, Kimberly, Cassandra and I went to a place called Trattoria 4 Leoni. I ordered Strigoli Picanti. It was this short pasta, smaller than penne, in a spicy tomato sauce. It was great, right up my alley! Kimberly and Cassandra ordered Linguine ai fiori di zucca, which I will be going back to get because that was also delicious. After dinner we ran in to JD and Sarah who met a band that consisted of a girl from Spain and a man from Italy. They invited them to their concert and we decided to tag along. The concert was at a place in Piazza Tasso called Aurora. There were a lot of young, hipster Italians and I really felt immersed in the culture. I even tried using some of the very few Italian phrases I know to speak to a few of them. Tomorrow we are heading to Siena for the day!
